To better help capture our safety case, we’ve built workflows into the flight logging process. Free accounts can only have one workflow, but you’re able to customize it to your liking. You can add additional checklists and risk assessments or modify the template that has been provided. If you make any workflow updates, make sure to log out of the app and back in again to pick up the latest workflow. Doing so also saves the workflow for offline use just in case connectivity is lost in the field.
Missions
Missions are an easy way to organize your flights. You can think of each mission as your purpose for launching, such as training, photography, or just for fun. Mission creation can happen both in the app and from the web dashboard.
During mission creation on the web, you can use an address, or lat/long coordinate, or you can draw a polygon to define the flight area. Make sure you add yourself as the Mission’s Pilot in Command before proceeding and approving.
Checklists
A staple of preflight safety procedures is checklists. For example, many SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) call for initial flight area evaluations, possible HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) checks, and ultimately an equipment preflight checklist for the aircraft. Checklists can be customized. Once added to a workflow, checklists can also be optional or required. Checklists can be managed from the Manage > Checklists screen. Admins can view individual checklist activity by going to Manage > Checklist Logs. Completed checklists when conducted alongside flight activity will appear within the Checklist Logs section.
Risk Assessments
Risk Assessments allow workflow-specific checks and balances to be put in place to help program admins set the boundaries for acceptable risk, and for pilots to be able to better understand their risk exposure with each flight that’s launched.
Risk assessments are completely customizable, allowing multiple sections or topics and specific weights for each question and answer.
Completed risk assessments when conducted alongside flight activity will appear within the Risk Assessment Logs section. Checklists can be managed from the Manage > Checklists screen. Admins can view individual checklist activity by going to Manage > Checklist Logs.
Completing the Workflow
Free users are able to adjust the workflow as needed but are limited to one. These checklists and risk assessments can be made optional or required. Workflows are managed from the Manage > Workflows screen.
Once the workflow is saved, you will be prompted to complete the workflow when tapping “Fly” or creating a mission in the app. Make sure to also record your flight activity if you want to preserve any checklist or risk assessment logs, and finish out the flight logging process by tapping the red exit button and completing your post-flight.
