Streaming (Advanced)

This is for streaming on Android-based Remote Controllers

Updated over a month ago

Air Control can support streaming from any Android device.

In this case, Air Control will be installed onto the Remote Controller to stream in the background while the pilot flies in their default flight app.

Airspace, weather, LAANC, checklists, and manual flight logging will continue to function. Pilots will not hook their drones up directly to Air Control.

Find your mobile app version below:

Streaming on Android (SDK5)

The fastest way to get streaming is from the main menu. Tap Stream > Screen Share > Start > and switch to your flight app. Air Control can stream just about any device this way.

Step by step:

  • Turn on Controller

  • Launch Air Control, tap Fly or Select/Create a Mission

  • Proceed through normal workflow

  • On Connect Aircraft screen, power up drone

  • Once connected, you'll see streaming option in top-left corner

  • Tap to enable, icon will turn green when connected

  • Allow permission if it pops up

  • Change HUD or camera only settings in Settings > Transmission Settings

  • Duplicate Screen option will allow you to switch apps and continue streaming

  • View the stream and generate a sharable link from the web: https://air.aloft.ai/

Air Control is getting new streaming features! Aside from the above workflow, you now have additional options to Stream in the main menu that includes Screenshare, Front/Back device camera (if available), and Aux-in to use with HDMI Capture Cards or HDMI-in supported devices.

You can enable screen share streaming from the main menu and use any app while Air Control streams in the background.

If you plan to fly in another app, it's recommended to enable the "Fly in External App" setting found in the Air Control main menu. This helps prevent any conflicts between the two flight apps.

Aux-In Streaming

Air Control now supports streaming even offline remote controllers. As long as there's a form of HDMI out, you can connect the device to a mobile phone and use Air Control for live streaming. This approach works for ground equipment, rovors, submersibles, and even airborne equipment.

Often times, you'll also need to use an HDMI Capture Card for this approach unless the mobile device supports HDMI-In natively.

You'll plug the HDMI into the equipment you want to stream, plug the other end into the HDMI capture card, and plug the HDMI capture card into the mobile device. Then, you can launch Air Control, tap Stream from the main menu, and allow permission to access the capture card. It may take a few seconds to load and buffer but the visuals should pop up within a few seconds.

Streaming on Android (SDK4)

Step by step:

  • Turn on Controller

  • Launch DJI, Turn on Drone, tap Enter Camera View

  • Swipe down from top of screen, tap Home in top-right corner

  • Launch Air Control

  • Tap Fly, go through workflow (skip if needed), get to Connect Aircraft screen

  • (If no GPS, tap okay, tap anywhere on airspace map, tap Fly again)

  • Top-right menu, second icon down is Streaming (YouTube looking icon)

  • (Allow screen recording and microphone permission)

  • Turn Broadcast toggle on, you should see a green icon pop up indicating connected stream

  • If red, there's usually an internet problem.

  • Swipe down from top of screen, tap Recents (Two squares to the left of home)

  • Switch back to DJI, and Air Control will continue streaming in background

  • View the stream and generate a sharable link from the web: https://air.aloft.ai/

Streaming on iOS

Note: Streaming on iOS requires Air Control to connect directly to the drone to enable a broadcast. The process looks identical to SDK4 in-app process (screen share streaming coming soon). Support is currently limited to DJI Go, Go4, and Pilot drones. For reference, the iOS process is laid out in the basic Live Streaming article.

View Streams on the Web Dashboard:

Anyone that can log into the account, and has permission to view streams, can pull up the web dashboard directly. For those that need access but don't have an Air Control account, we can grab a easy link via the "Share Streams" button up top.

Up to 4 active streams can be viewed at the same time. You can view more by opening up additional browser tabs or windows. There is no limit to stream hours or minutes for both the pilot and viewers. Up to 50 users can view any individual drone stream. All streaming data is encrypted in transit and not stored by Aloft.
