Manual Flight Logging

How do I log flights for any drone?

Updated over a week ago

Manual Flight Logs offer a drone-agnostic approach to logging flight activity.

Before you can log manual flights:

Logging from the App

Preferably, manual flight logs are created in the app by the pilot while on scene:

After creating or selecting a Mission, or after tapping Fly, the pilot will be presented with their workflow. After completing the workflow, the pilot will be presented with the In-Flight screen below. Note - at this point, nothing has been logged.

Users flying outside the platform should tap "Log Manual Flight" to create flight logs.

First, select the drone in use. Battery is optional.

You can then start the flight timer, or enter the duration below.

Note: if planning to operate offline, you have to select the drone at least once before it will be saved as an offline option. A battery is not required.

Tap "Start Flight Timer" or enter the duration manual below to record the first flight. Once logged, the user can choose whether to add another flight with the timer or entering the duration manually. This is up to the pilot. At this point, one could start the timer, switch over to another app to fly, and come back to stop the timer when done.

The manual flight log captures a stub of the pilot's activity including airspace, authorization, weather, checklists, risk assessments, notes, and more. Create as many flights on this screen as needed for multiple drone launches and battery swaps. When you're done creating flight logs, tap the red exit circle.

The user will now be prompted for their post-flight workflow. After completing the workflow, the post-flight review screen is presented. Here you can mark your mission "Complete" if you're done adding logs, or you can leave it "In Progress" (Approved) so that you can select the mission and continue adding flights.

Users can supplement these logs with imported logs, from supported manufacturers, that contain the flight telemetry, battery voltages, temperatures, etc. Users can use the Merge functionality to combine Manual Flight Logs with an imported flight.

Overview

Here is a video of the whole process in order to rely on manual flight logs:

  1. For advanced planning, create the mission from the web ahead of time.

  2. Once approved, proceed to flight location.

  3. Open Air Control app.

  4. Drone must be entered into the platform beforehand.

  5. Select the mission.

  6. Complete pre-flight workflow.

  7. Choose Log Manual Flight

  8. Add flights and duration info as needed (while switching to your preferred flight app)

  9. Once complete, tap the red exit circle and conduct post-flight workflow.

  10. Choose Complete to close and complete the mission.

Logging from the web:

If needed, logs can be created from the Manage > Flights page using the Add Flights button via the web dashboard:
