Importing KML / KMZ files

Can I import files for automated flights?

Updated yesterday

Air Control can support Automated Flight planning for certain models, including the Anzu Raptor series and DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise series. More information on Automated Flights can be found here.

The mobile app can only import KMZ files that were created by the app. This helps with sharing flights between pilots or keeping a backup.

If working with KML / KMZ files that you would like to use as flight boundary, this can be accomplished by creating a mission from the web dashboard, and uploading the KML / KMZ file as the mission area.

Once the shape is uploaded, it will automatically snap to the area on the map. You'll want to ensure the mission address pin is still correct. In some cases, you may be prompted to update the pin if it doesn't align with the uploaded shape.

Click "Add" to save the mission. Make sure it's assigned to a Pilot in Command and is marked with "Approved" status to accept it in the app. Once saved, the new mission should be visible from the mobile app on the remote controller.

Select the mission, proceed through any workflow, and get connected with the drone.

On the in-flight automated flight panel, you'll see an option to "create flight plan from mission area".

You can then create a mapping or waypoint route depending on the shape uploaded. You can also re-import existing KMLs that were previously generated by Air Control using the "Import KML" option.

Double check altitude, gimbal, overlap settings, etc. Then save the automated flight and select the new flight plan from the menu on the right. It should match the mission name by default. Tap the "play" button to load the flight, and tap it again to launch the flight.
